Materials & Construction
The Marcus Drop-Waist Jacket combines structured cotton twill with considered tailoring details. The Italian 350gsm white cotton twill provides weight, durability and the structure needed to hold its sculptural silhouette.
Its substantial weight supports the exaggerated volume of the balloon sleeves and gathered peplum, while maintaining a crisp, defined finish. Inside, a contrasting scarlet TENCEL™ twill lining introduces another layer of detail. The colour references the red linings found in Hall Ludlow’s original work.
The construction gives equal consideration to the interior and exterior. Hong Kong finishes enclose the raw edges of the outer shell’s internal seams, while French seams create a clean finish throughout the lining.
Decorative topstitching traces the scarf collar, cuffs, hem and waistband. These details add definition and reinforce the jacket’s distinctive features. Two discreet external pockets introduce everyday functionality without interrupting the silhouette.
Every element, from fabric selection to internal finishing, reflects an emphasis on longevity, wearability and considered craftsmanship.
Made to Order
Each Marcus Drop-Waist Jacket is individually made to order. This approach allows for greater attention to detail and a more considered approach to garment making.
The original design features white cotton twill with a contrasting scarlet TENCEL™ lining. It comes in one size, with an intentionally oversized fit. Its generous proportions allow the jacket to sit low over the hips while retaining its sculptural shape and volume.
The original colourway remains the signature version. However, alternative colours, fabrics and individual modifications are also welcome. Bespoke commissions and custom adjustments offer the opportunity to explore the design beyond its original specification.

Measurements & Fit
The Marcus Drop-Waist Jacket comes in one size, with an intentionally oversized fit. Measurements are taken from the finished garment:
– Centre front (neckline to waist): 56 cm
– Waistband circumference: 100 cm
– Sleeve length: 55 cm
– Full length (from neckline): 82 cm
The waistband is designed to sit over the hips and across the seat, creating the jacket’s distinctive dropped-waist silhouette.

A Note on Individuality
The Marcus Drop-Waist Jacket explores the relationship between archival design and contemporary reinterpretation. Its starting point is Hall Ludlow’s 1986 jacket, held in the RDA archives.
The redesign retains the original’s expressive proportions and exaggerated character while introducing a new silhouette through the lowered waistline. This shift gives the archival reference a different perspective, allowing the design to exist beyond its original context.
